Lecture:
Mike Boas – “Magic Burros and Graying Hair: Rotoscoping with After Effects (and Flash)”
Discussed using rotoscoping (drawing around objects) tools for 3.14 and Bury My Heart with Tonawanda using Adobe Flash and Adobe After Effects
Brief Takeaways –
After Effects – draw circles from Adjustment menu and push it over the object using key frames, create softer edges using feather tool with masks, can change modes to see the different effects, can use two masks at once to cancel out space (which is easier for movement)
Flash – better to use (sometimes) because different shapes can be painted more easily than with After Effects circles, export lower resolution shots into Flash to work quicker, use key frames to move objects, can export back into After Effects, PNG files are a good export format because they contain the alpha channels in them.
General – keep playing around with things until you find what you like, fantasy shots can “suspend reality” and not have to be perfect or plausibly done, and online forums or free tutorials are helpful when stuck – http://www.lynda.com/, http://creativecow.com/,  http://www.videocopilot.net/, and www.youtube.com.
