Announcing SCRIPTITUDE: Best Short Screenplays of Upstate NY

ATTENTION SCREENWRITERS!

The Rochester Association for Film Arts and Sciences presents a short script competition open to all residents of upstate NY. Enter to win one of three copies of FINAL DRAFT, as well as a table reading of your script by experienced actors before a live audience.

This is a great opportunity to hear your work and the scripts of other writers performed by dedicated actors!

Write something new, or fix up a screenplay you’ve had in the drawer. But don’t delay! Deadline for entry is February 28. Table reading will be scheduled for an evening in April.

AWARDS AND PRIZES

Each screenplay submitted will receive a written critique of their work. First, second, and third place winners will have their screenplays presented at a public table read at the Wegmans Magic Spell Theater at the Rochester Institute of Technology. In addition, the three winners will receive a copy of Final Draft 11.

ENTRY FEE

The cost for each entry is $25. Proceeds go to Rochester Association for Film Arts and Sciences, a not for profit educational corporation run entirely by volunteers.

The November Networking Workshop will be hosting in what may become our new home: The Record Archive. They have a great back room, complete with a cash bar.

However, they are free to accommodate underage guests. So, students, please feel free to attend.

At this meeting, which is just a few days after the Mind2Movie presentation, we will be discussing experiences and memories in participating in M2M 2018.

We do have a hard 8:30 end time, which is why this event is scheduled to end at 8:00 (which is what time the cash bar ends).

This is the last Networking Workshop of the year, so if you haven’t been regularly attending, you will definitely want to come down for this.

October Networking Workshop

The October Networking Workshop is the last chance to recruit or be recruited for Mind2Movie, our annual 72-hour film competition. For those unaware, M2M takes place the last weekend of October.

Teams make short films, which will then be screened at the Cinema Theater on November 17th, with awards handed out after the screening.

If you have registered a Mind-2-Movie team, or are planning to register, you do not want to miss this Networking Workshop.

Also, if you are looking to be recruited onto a team, you will definitely want to show up. This is a great chance to land on a team.

We are back at the Toasted Bear in the South Wedge. We are going to limit the amount of talking time before the free-range networking portion of the event, to make sure that everyone gets a chance to talk to everyone else individually.

You are not required to have your team fully-formed in order to enlist. Also, if you have yet to register your team, you can go to http://mind2movie.com/ to get signed up.

Producers, hire your crew and get ready for a Mind2movie experience like no other. With over $10,000 in prizes from Film Industry sponsors, you’ll have everything you need to amp your next film.

Registration is open now and we are limiting competition to 20 teams.

Mind2Movie is RAFAS’ 72 hour race to script, shoot, edit and deliver a 5 min short film. We have had great success with these events in the past and encourage anyone and everyone to round up their friends and spend the weekend making a movie. This year’s theme will be horror, which we thought would be fun due to the close proximity of the event to Halloween.

Get your team together and register online. Then, on Thursday, October 25th, 2018, you will be assigned a few elements that need to be present your finished 5 minute film. All entries must be delivered by Sunday night to make the cut and compete for our assortment of prizes from our very generous sponsors.

Another Networking Workshop down in the South Wedge! An evening of getting to know your local filmmakers, but better yet, giving them the opportunity to know you.

Things are heating up with the summer shoot schedule, so if you have a project you need help on, come down and recruit. If you actively looking to work on a project, come down and grease some palms.

Announcements will be made of the status of Mind-2-Movie 2018.

July Networking Workshop

NOTE: The July Networking event is not taking place at Nox. There is a glitch where Meetup was repeating our May event every month. It should be fixed now.

Very sorry about the stall in announcing the event. We were supposed to switch locations for the third quarter, but the problem was: everywhere was booked.

Luckily, the Toasted Bear in the South Wedge took us in for one more meeting.

For those unfamiliar, the Networking Workshop is a monthly event for filmmakers and film enthusiasts alike to get together, introduce themselves, describe what they do and what they’re working on.then It’s a great opportunity to meet other filmmakers and possibly work on each others’ productions.

For those who haven’t been yet, now is the time to come. The summer shooting schedule is in full swing, and lots of people are in need of cast and crew. To the regulars, join in again at a place you’re pretty familiar with by now.

Celebrate the one year anniversary of the RAFAS Networking Workshop at the place where it all began: Nox Cocktail Lounge at Village Gate!

This time around, they have their own private room, which we have booked for the next two meetings.
